Eagle Claw is an American hook brand made by Wright & McGill Co., founded in 1925 by Stan Wright and Drew McGill and based in Denver, Colorado. It is one of the most widely sold hook brands in the US. For deep droppers, Eagle Claw’s key product is the Lazer Sharp L2004 series of circle hooks, including tournament-legal non-offset models up to 10/0, sold in packs of up to 50.
This review covers the L2004 circle hooks, Eagle Claw’s saltwater assortments and swivels, and the company’s new US factory.
Eagle Claw at a glance
Lazer Sharp L2004 circle hooks

Lazer Sharp is Eagle Claw’s premium hook line. The L2004 circles have a ringed eye and a non-offset (zero offset) point, which makes them tournament-legal where inline circles are required. The finishes are made for saltwater corrosion resistance.
Bait Saver: developed with Captain Rick Murphy, the Bait Saver adds a monofilament loop that holds a live bait without damaging its gills, so baits stay alive longer. It suits live bait rigs more than heavy deep drop rigs.
Saltwater Circle Hook Assortment

Eagle Claw also sells a 20-hook saltwater circle assortment in a heavy-duty box, about $11.99, for tuna, tarpon, grouper and striped bass.
Terminal tackle

Eagle Claw makes ball bearing swivels with interlock snaps for connecting the main line to a rig, sold in several sizes. For heavy deep drop rigs, check the rated strength on the package and make sure it is higher than your leader.

Where to buy
Eagle Claw is sold at almost every US tackle shop and big-box store, and online at TackleDirect, FishUSA and Discount Tackle.
Verdict
Eagle Claw’s Lazer Sharp L2004 circles are an affordable, tournament-legal choice for deep drop rigs, and the 50-packs make sense for anyone who rigs a lot of baits. For the heaviest rigs and swordfish, a 3X or 4X strong circle from Mustad, Gamakatsu or VMC gives more margin.
