Run time: Abyss’s collection page advertises up to 18 hours of continuous power, and the product page says users report all-day performance from 300 to 1,200 feet. As always, the real figure depends on depth, lead weight, current, the reel and how many drops you make.
A note on the specs: The listed figures don’t quite add up. LiFePO4 packs are usually 12.8V nominal, 14.8V is typical of other lithium chemistries, and 10Ah at 14.8V would be about 148Wh, not 120Wh. Before you buy, ask Abyss to confirm the chemistry, nominal voltage and maximum continuous current for your reel, especially a high-draw reel like the Daiwa Seaborg 800MJ, which Daiwa rates at up to 20 A peak.

How to size a reel battery
Amp-hours (Ah) measure how much energy a pack holds. A 10Ah pack can in theory deliver 1 amp for 10 hours or 10 amps for 1 hour. An electric reel draws little current while dropping and much more while hauling a lead and a fish up from depth. Daiwa’s published figures for the Seaborg 800MJ show the range: 4 A with no load, 7 A rated in high gear, and up to 20 A peak. Deeper drops, heavier leads and stronger current all mean longer, harder hauls and more energy used per drop.
Rules of thumb:
– Count your hauls, not your hours. A day of twelve drops at 1,000 feet uses far more battery than eight hours of kite fishing.
– Size up for depth. If you regularly fish beyond 800 feet, take the 10Ah Deep-Drop, not the 5Ah Kite pack.
