30Ah (SLIL12-30DCM-BT). The most practical size for one or two reels. At $199.99 it’s cheaper than most 10Ah reel packs, with three times the capacity. It comes in the same 7.12 × 3 × 6.5″ case as the older 20Ah (SLIL12-20DCM-BT), which In-Fisherman reviewed at $249.99 and 5.9 lb (X2Power’s product sheet lists 5.6 lb). The 20Ah’s Batteries Plus product page no longer loads.
9Ah commercial (10.8Ah). Small and light at 2.1 lb, but Batteries Plus lists it for “security systems, backup power, robotics,” and it carries a shorter 36-month warranty. No current rating is published, so it’s a gamble for a big reel.
60Ah. Enough capacity to run several reels and electronics from one box on a center console.
The missing number: current rating
Batteries Plus lists capacity, energy, size, terminals and warranty, but not maximum continuous or peak discharge current for any X2Power battery we looked at. X2Power says each battery has a Battery Management System that protects “against over-charging and over-discharging,” which also means the BMS will shut the battery off if a load goes past its limit.
For reference, Daiwa rates the Seaborg 800MJ at up to 20 A peak, and a vendor on The Hull Truth said the Banax Kaigen 1000 limits current to 25 A. Before relying on an X2Power battery for a big reel, ask Batteries Plus (1-800-677-8278) for the continuous and peak rating of the exact part number. X2Power also warns its deep-cycle batteries are “not for use as a cranking/starting battery.” Keep a reel battery isolated from the engine-starting circuit.

Building a deep drop battery box with X2Power
- Box it. Batteries Plus doesn’t list a waterproof rating. Use a closed, vented battery box, strapped down.
- Fuse it. Put an inline fuse sized for your reel on the positive lead, close to the battery.
- Connect properly. The M8 insert terminals on the 30Ah and 60Ah take ring terminals. Wire a 2-pin reel socket or a Hubbell outlet to them rather than using alligator clips.
- Charge with a LiFePO4 charger. X2Power sells chargers; Boating tested an X2Power 7.5-amp charger alongside a 100Ah battery in 2023.
- Use the app. Bluetooth lets you check state of charge from the helm, which is handy on a long ledge day.
