Nomad Design is an Australian brand best known for its lures, and it makes two real slow pitch rod lines. The main Nomad Design Slow Pitch Jigging series (model codes starting NSPJ) uses a Helix30T blank of Japanese 30-ton Toray carbon, Fuji Alconite K guides, a Fuji GM reel seat and a split rear grip. The cheaper Seacore line uses Toray carbon with Fuji O-ring guides. Both come in spinning and overhead (casting) versions, and both are sold in the US.

Company overview
Nomad’s own story page says Captain Damon Olsen, a qualified engineer, started Nomad Sportfishing in Hervey Bay, Queensland, in 2000, running charter trips to remote Coral Sea reefs. The tackle brand came out of that work, because “most tackle just couldn’t handle the ferocity of the Coral Sea’s predators.” The same page dates the tackle brand to 2015 and its move into the US market to 2018. Export Finance Australia, which funded Nomad’s exports, says the company supplies Bass Pro Shops and exports to the US, Singapore, New Zealand and South Africa.

Nomad Design Slow Pitch Jigging (NSPJ)

Nomad says these rods are “designed to be lightweight, responsive and has the tip action to bring a slow pitch jig to life all day long.” The blank has “a slower taper but a more responsive tip section that has higher recovery,” and bends deep, right down through the reel seat. Discount Tackle’s copy says the rods were “developed, designed, and tested” on Australia’s Great Barrier Reef. Spinning models start with NSPJS, overhead models with NSPJOH. The last digits give the PE range, so NSPJOH622-4 is a 6’2″ overhead rod for PE 2–4.

TackleDirect had the NSPJS632-4 at $259.99 and the NSPJOH682-4 at $289.99, both in stock. Seacore Slow Pitch
Seacore is the value line. Nomad describes “lightweight, responsive blanks” of Japanese Toray carbon with a “slower taper and high-recovery tip,” and Fuji O-ring guides. The Australian site lists a 24T and 30T carbon mix. The US copy mentions a “full handle.”

Nomad rods on Florida ledges
Most Florida slow pitch fishing happens on grouper and snapper ledges in 150–400 ft, often with the Gulf Stream pushing. Here’s how the Nomad range fits:
- 150–250 ft, light current: the 40–200 g rods handle 150–200 g jigs, which cover most days.
- 300 ft and up, or strong current: step up to the NSPJOH683-6 or Seacore SCSPJOH68-5. The Seacore’s 320 g ceiling is the highest published gram rating in the Nomad range.
- Tilefish and very deep drops: no Nomad slow pitch rod is rated for the 400 g-plus jigs some anglers use out deep. Look at heavier rods for that.
- Overhead vs. spinning: most Florida slow pitch anglers fish overhead reels. The 6’8″ overhead models give a longer lift and more jig movement per stroke.
