CHAOS Fishing is a South Florida rod builder and tackle outfitter based in Pompano Beach, just up the coast from the deep drop grounds off Fort Lauderdale and Miami. The company has been in business since 1994, builds its rods one at a time in its own shop, and describes itself as one of the largest fishing outfitters and custom rod makers in the Southeast. Its deep drop lineup is aimed squarely at local conditions: short, heavy rods for electric reels, swordfish and big bottom fish.
This review covers the CHAOS SW Tournament Series deep drop and swordfish rods, the original CHAOS Deep Drop Rod, the custom options, the warranty, and the electric combos CHAOS sells with Daiwa and Shimano reels.
CHAOS Fishing at a glance
SW Tournament Series 6FT Deep Drop Rod (Full Curve Butt)
This is CHAOS’s main deep drop rod and the one listed first in its Deep Drop collection. It is a one-piece, 6-foot rod with a full curve aluminum gimbal butt that spreads the load across the lower section and sits the rod low in the holder. CHAOS lists it as Extra Heavy power with a slow action, built on an E-glass and graphite composite blank. That slow, deep bend is what keeps hooks in big swordfish and grouper as they come up through the water column.
Line control comes from Fuji SiC running guides and a Winthrop roller top, which give room for big knots and wind-on leaders. The reel seat is an AFTCO Big Foot trigger seat with an EVA grip. CHAOS says the rod handles leads of up to about 8 lb and takes 50–80 lb braid or up to 100 lb mono.
Variants and prices

Specifications
CHAOS’s spec sheet and product description disagree on a few points, including line rating and guide type. The line classes above come from the variants you can actually order. Confirm the build details with the shop when you order.
SW Tournament Series Swordfish Rods
The Swordfish rods share the Tournament Series build: 6 feet long with Fuji SiC running guides and a Winthrop roller top. CHAOS sells them as daytime swordfish rods that also handle big tuna and high-speed wahoo trolling. They cost less than the Full Curve Butt deep drop rod and come in three line classes.
CHAOS Deep Drop Rod (original)

The original CHAOS Deep Drop Rod is still listed on the CHAOS site but was backordered in October 2026. It is built for heavy electric reels and 130-class conventional setups, with Fuji SiC guides and an AFTCO roller top.
Custom builds
Because every rod is built in Pompano Beach, CHAOS can change almost anything: rod or grip length, guides and components, butt style, and the full look of the rod. Online options include species decals ($5–20) and monograms ($10, up to 60 characters). For anything else, such as matching an existing set of rods or adding a boat name, CHAOS takes orders by phone at (877) 337-9591.
Warranty
The deep drop rods use composite blanks, so expect the 5-year term to apply.
Latest updates 2025–2026
- SW Tournament Series: the Full Curve Butt deep drop rod and three Swordfish rods are CHAOS’s current deep drop lineup.
- Original CHAOS Deep Drop Rod: still listed, but backordered.

- Fuji SiC guides and Winthrop roller top: low friction for braid and room for knots and wind-on leaders.
- Full curve butt: low angle in the rod holder and less strain in a long fight.
- Fully customizable: length, components, butt and finish can all be changed.
Pros and cons
Who it’s for
Where to buy
CHAOS rods are sold only by CHAOS, online at chaosfishing.com and at the retail store at 4301 N Federal Hwy, Pompano Beach (Monday–Saturday, 8 a.m.–6 p.m.). Shipping is free on orders over $99, and local pickup is usually ready within a few hours. CHAOS also sells ready-made electric deep drop combos that pair its rods and Daiwa or Shimano rods with electric reels.
Verdict
CHAOS Fishing is a strong pick for South Florida anglers who want a deep drop or swordfish rod built locally and set up exactly how they like it. The SW Tournament Series 6FT Deep Drop is a heavy, slow-action composite rod made for big fish, and the Swordfish rods give a lower-cost way into the same build. Visit the Pompano Beach store or call before ordering to confirm specs and custom options.
