A deep drop rod has to carry a heavy lead and an electric reel all day, absorb the lunge of a big fish at the surface, and survive the rod holder. Most are short (about 5 to 7 feet), built on durable glass or composite blanks, with bent butts or heavy roller or SiC guides, and rated in 50, 80 and 130 lb classes.
