Shimano is the other Japanese giant of electric-reel fishing, and in the US its deep drop program is built around the BeastMaster and ForceMaster electric reels. For rods, Shimano North America offers two purpose-built deep drop series: the affordable Talavera Bluewater Deep Drop, now in its redesigned “B” version, and the flagship Terez BW Deep Drop. Outside the US, Shimano sells a wider range of electric-reel rods, including the Status Elite Deep Drop and Deep Chaser in Australia and the Speedmaster AX and Technium Deep Drop in Europe.
This review covers both US series, what changed in the 2025–2026 Talavera redesign, the overseas models, and which Shimano electric reels to pair with each rod.
Shimano at a glance
Talavera Bluewater Deep Drop B (redesigned)

The Talavera Bluewater is Shimano’s mid-price offshore series, covering everything from light trolling to deep dropping. It includes two purpose-built deep drop models, both short 5-foot, one-piece sticks on curved Unibutts. Shimano redesigned the series as the Talavera Bluewater “B”, adding DIAFLASH butt reinforcement: carbon tape wrapped diagonally in opposite directions on the butt section, forming an X pattern that cuts twist and adds lifting power. The B models also move to Fuji guides.
The rods have plenty of backbone with a moderate-fast tip that soaks up head shakes and keeps hooks pinned, which is exactly what you want when winching tilefish, queen snapper and snowy grouper up from 600 feet or more.

What changed from the A version

The A version is still sold by dealers while stock lasts, and Shimano’s own store showed both B models as sold out in October 2026, so expect to hunt for them at dealers such as CHAOS Fishing, TackleDirect and Defender.
Terez BW Deep Drop: the flagship

Terez BW is Shimano’s top offshore rod series, developed with input from tournament-winning captains. The Deep Drop models are sold as Uni-Butt blades so you can fit the butt you prefer (CHAOS Fishing has offered a free ALPS butt with the Terez BW 80 Deep Drop). The blank combines three Shimano technologies:
- Spiral X: a three-layer blank with carbon tape wound diagonally in opposite directions inside and out, improving compression strength and twist resistance without extra weight.
- Hi-Power X: an X-pattern carbon tape wrap on the outer layer, tuned per model, for more strength and control.
- UD Glass: unidirectional glass for durability and a forgiving bend under heavy load.
Terez BW Deep Drop models
Both have a 14″ high-density EVA foregrip. Shimano does not publish a line rating; the 50 and 80 in the names point to 50 and 80 lb class reels. Total length depends on the butt you fit.
Shimano electric-reel rods outside the US

Shimano Australia, New Zealand and Europe sell more dendoh rods. Most are rated in PE (braid size) or sinker weight rather than pounds.
Latest updates 2025–2026
- Talavera Bluewater B: the redesigned series replaces the A rods, adding DIAFLASH butt reinforcement and Fuji guides at the same $329.99 and $379.99 prices.
- Terez BW Deep Drop: remains Shimano’s flagship deep drop rod at $599.99, with stock running short on the 80 model.
- 2026 Talavera family: Shimano’s 2026 offshore lineup expands the Talavera name to boat, slow-jig and Type J casting rods, so expect more Talavera options for deep jigging alongside the deep drop models.
- Electric reels: the BeastMaster 9000B and ForceMaster A remain the current US electric reels; both were listed as sold out on Shimano’s store in October 2026.
Key features

- Short, powerful blanks: 5-foot Talavera rods and 51–57″ Terez blades give leverage from a rod holder and keep the reel low.
- Twist-resistant construction: DIAFLASH on Talavera B; Spiral X and Hi-Power X on Terez.
- Swivel tips: on the Terez BW and the Talavera A, so the line runs true when the rod sits at an angle in the holder.
- Curved butts: curved Unibutts on Talavera; Uni-Butt blades on Terez for a butt of your choice.
- System design: built to pair with BeastMaster and ForceMaster electric reels.
Pros and cons
Who it’s for
Where to buy
Shimano sells direct at fishshop.shimano.com and through dealers. In the US, look at CHAOS Fishing (Pompano Beach), TackleDirect (which also sells BeastMaster and Talavera deep drop combos) and Defender. Because stock is tight, check several dealers before you buy.
Verdict
Shimano keeps its US deep drop range small but well thought out. The Talavera Bluewater Deep Drop B is a strong, affordable 5-foot rod that does most South Florida deep dropping, and the Terez BW Deep Drop is the choice for anglers who want Shimano’s best blank and are happy to fit their own butt. If you already run a BeastMaster or ForceMaster, a Shimano rod completes the system.
