J-Braid is Daiwa’s braided line family, made in Japan. For deep dropping, the key line is J-Braid Grand x8 Multi Color, launched in the US in December 2023. It changes color every 10 meters and comes in strengths up to 120 lb on spools up to 3,300 yards. Daiwa designed it to pair with its Tanacom electric reels. The standard J-Braid x8 Multi-Color is a lower-cost option in lighter tests.
This review covers both multi-color lines, their sizes and prices, and which Daiwa reels they suit.
Daiwa J-Braid at a glance
J-Braid Grand x8 Multi Color

J-Braid Grand uses Daiwa’s patented IZANAS fiber, a newer material that Daiwa says is superior to the Ultra Dyneema used in the original J-Braid. It is an 8-carrier braid with a narrow, round profile and good abrasion resistance; one dealer says it is up to four times more abrasion-resistant than standard four-strand braid. The multi-color version changes color every 10 meters, for deep dropping, live bait rigging, jigging and trolling.

J-Braid x8 Multi-Color
The standard J-Braid x8 is an 8-strand braid with a round profile and a color change every 10 meters, with hash marks that warn when the next color is coming. It is sold mainly in lighter tests on 330 yd spools, so it suits jigging and lighter deep drop rigs, or as a top shot. Europe also gets a 1,500 m multicolor spool.

Where to buy
J-Braid is sold through Daiwa dealers, including TackleDirect, Discount Tackle, Johnny Jigs and CHAOS Fishing in Pompano Beach, which also sells Daiwa electric combos spooled with braid.
Verdict
If you run a Daiwa Tanacom or Seaborg, J-Braid Grand x8 Multi Color is the natural line to fill it with: thin, tough, metered every 10 meters and available up to 120 lb. The standard J-Braid x8 Multi-Color is a good-value choice for jigging and lighter rigs.
