Varivas Braided Line Review

Deep Drop Directory › Braided Fishing Line › Varivas

Varivas is a Japanese line maker, founded in 1980 as a brand of Morris Co., Ltd. (now Varivas Co., Ltd.). Its Avani Jigging 10×10 Max Power PE X8 is one of the best-known metered braids for jigging and deep dropping: ten colors, each 10 meters long, so every color tells you depth at a glance. It comes in sizes up to PE 12 (150 lb) and on spools up to 1,200 m, long enough to fill an electric reel.

This review covers the 10×10 line in detail, the older Avani Jigging Big One, and where to buy Varivas in the US.

Avani Jigging 10×10 Max Power PE X8

Varivas Avani Jigging 10×10 Max Power PE X8 — braided line
Varivas Avani Jigging 10×10 Max Power PE X8

The line is braided from eight strands of Varivas’s Max Power PE, which dealers describe as over 50% stronger than standard Dyneema or Spectra, and finished with a non-fluorine SP-V coating for a smooth, abrasion-resistant surface. The name “10×10” comes from its marking: 10 colors, each 10 meters long. Varivas includes a color indicator sticker for the reel, so you can see which color means which depth.

Varivas Avani Jigging Big One — braided line, discontinued
Varivas Avani Jigging Big One

The Avani Jigging PE Big One Max Power PE was a five-color, 10-meter metered braid for near-shore jigging, in PE 3–6 on 300 and 600 m spools for $60–65. Varivas now lists it as discontinued and sold only while stock lasts.

Latest updates 2025–2026

  • Avani Jigging 10×10 Max Power PE X8 is Varivas’s current metered braid, with 1,200 m spools that suit electric reels.
  • The five-color Avani Jigging Big One has been discontinued.
  • We found no new Varivas metered braid announced for 2025–2026.

Key features

  • 10 colors × 10 m: the most detailed color scheme in this category, with a color sticker for the reel.
  • Max Power PE: very strong for its diameter.
  • SP-V coating: smooth through guides and rollers, with good abrasion resistance.
  • Huge size range: PE 0.6 to PE 12, on spools up to 1,200 m.

Pros and cons

Pros Cons
Ten-color pattern makes depth easy to read Expensive: 1,200 m spools cost $185–293 in the US
Sizes up to PE 12 (150 lb) Fewer US dealers than PowerPro or Sufix
1,200 m spools fill electric reels Varivas lists most prices as “open price” in Japan
Smooth, abrasion-resistant coating The cheaper Big One line is discontinued

Who it’s for

Angler Best Varivas line Suggested size
Deep dropping with an electric reel Avani Jigging 10×10, 1,200 m PE 5–8
Heavy deep drop and swordfish Avani Jigging 10×10, 1,200 m PE 10–12
Slow pitch jigging Avani Jigging 10×10, 300 m PE 1.5–3

Where to buy

In the US, Tomo’s Tackle sells Avani Jigging 10×10 on 1,200 m bulk spools and by the yard, and importers such as Evike carry other sizes. Varivas also runs an English-language site at varivas.fishing.

Verdict

Varivas Avani Jigging 10×10 is a premium choice for deep droppers who want to read depth straight off the line: ten colors every 10 meters, sizes up to 150 lb and spools long enough for an electric reel. It costs more than most American braids, but few lines are as easy to read at depth.
