Its KF series comes as complete deep drop systems: an electric reel, a short dedicated rod and a boat mount, sold as one unit. How a Kristal system works
A KF system is a gear-driven “box” reel with a side-mounted spool, fixed to a short, stiff rod that sits in a rod holder mount or gunnel mount. A three-position UP–OFF–DOWN switch runs the motor. There’s no fighting a fish by hand. The system hauls the rig up from depth at a steady speed while you watch the rod tip.
Why it suits deep dropping:
– Huge capacity: thousands of feet of braid for 1,000–2,000 ft drops
– Pulling power: hundreds of pounds of pull, far more than a handheld electric
– Simplicity: one switch, few settings, easy for crew and guests

What’s a Canary? The Canary configuration adds an overhead boom with a pulley block. The line runs over the block instead of along a rod tip, which lifts the rig clear of the gunwale and makes it easier to handle heavy leads, multiple hooks and big fish at the side of the boat.

Replacement rod: Miami Fishing Supply sells the Kristal replacement rod for KF models (C/KF 50 lb or 80 lb action) at $339.99. It’s 139 cm and fits the KF001, KF003 and KF004.
Why so short? A 4–5 ft rod keeps the reel and load close to the mount. That means less leverage on the gunwale, less flex under a 1,000+ lb pull, and easier handling at the rail.

Power and installation
- Wiring: size cables for the current draw (7–9 A for KF units) and cable length, with a fuse or breaker near the battery.
- Connectors: buy the 16A connectors separately.
- 12V or 24V: KF003 and KF004 run on either. 24V reduces current and cable losses on bigger boats.
