What the design does well
Detachable curved aluminum butt. The curved (bent) butt lowers the reel toward the gunwale, which cuts leverage on the rod holder and makes a heavy electric reel easier to live with. Being detachable, the rod breaks down for transport and storage, and the butt can be swapped or replaced if damaged.
Wind-on guides on the 80 and 130. The heavy models use Aftco wind-on guides, large-frame guides designed to let wind-on leaders and splices pass through. When you’re winding a long wind-on leader and a big fish up to the boat, the connection moves through the guides instead of catching. The swivel roller top reduces friction at the tip, where line load is highest.
Fuji guides on the 50. The 50 lb model uses six Fuji guides with an Aftco swivel top. That makes a lighter, more sensitive rod for compact electrics and braid.
Short and stout (80 and 130). At 5’3″, the heavy models give you maximum leverage in the rod holder and at the rail, which you want when an electric reel is lifting a big fish.

Beyond deep dropping

Setting up and caring for your rod
- Check the reel seat fit with your electric reel’s clamp before going offshore.
- Keep the roller top turning. Rinse with fresh water after every trip and add a drop of reel oil to the roller.
- Inspect the detachable butt joint. Keep it clean, and make sure it locks fully before each drop.

Roller guides or ring guides?

- Stronger lift. A short, stout rod transfers the electric reel’s power without bending away
