Palms’ Slow Blatt family is built around one idea: a jig that falls slowly and flashes. It comes in two branches. The offshore Slow Blatt S, R and L are slow pitch jigs in weights up to 500 g, each with a different balance and fall. The Slow Blatt Cast jigs (Oval, Slim and Long) are light, shore-casting jigs made from Palms’ own Z-Light Metal, which lets them fall even more slowly.

Palms Co., Ltd. (株式会社パームス) is based at 3-24-3 Yamashita, Hiratsuka, Kanagawa. Its representative director is Shusuke Iida. Palms sells under the Anglers Republic label, and you’ll see “Anglers Republic Palms” at some retailers. Its best-documented sellers are in Australia (distributor EJ Todd) and Europe. We didn’t find a major US distributor.
Palms also makes the Elua Metal Witch slow jigging rods (for example the Metal Witch Quest α and Metal Witch Slow Fall), mainly sold in Australia and Europe.

Offshore Slow Blatt: three balances
The three offshore models share Palms’ asymmetrical Slow Blatt design, but each has a different weight balance, which changes how it falls.
Slow Blatt S (center balance)
Center-balanced so it falls horizontally and slides less, keeping its side profile to the fish longer. Its asymmetric thick and thin sides give an irregular fall with flash.

Florida use: The classic slow pitch choice. A short, compact S holds its position in current, and its long horizontal fall draws strikes from grouper and snapper on the ledge.
Slow Blatt R (rear balance)
Rear-weighted for faster drops and reaction bites on the fall. Its “R-shaped” upper surface grabs water on the lift, and a slide edge underneath releases it. Sizes run 40–500 g (70–165 mm), at about ¥1,220–¥4,890 in Japan.
Florida use: When you need to reach bottom quickly, or when fish want a faster, more erratic fall.
Slow Blatt L (long)
A long, low-resistance body with dual center keels, in 40–300 g (105–207 mm), about ¥1,380–¥3,810.
Florida use: A bigger profile for fish feeding on long baitfish, and a good choice for suspended fish and pelagics.
Tungsten jigs
Palms makes only one tungsten jig, and it has been discontinued. The Smelt TG, sold under Palms’ ZetZ label, is a tiny tungsten casting jig of 3–14 g. Palms now lists it in the “Discontinued” section of its lure catalog. None of the current Palms jigs, including the Slow Blatt S, R and L, the Jigaro series and The Smelt, is listed as tungsten. We found no new tungsten jig announced.
The Smelt TG is not a slow pitch jig. It is a light shore-casting and micro-jig lure. Leftover stock still turns up at Japanese retailers and on eBay, but there is no US distributor.

Smelt TG
A compact, square-bodied tungsten jig, 21–35 mm long, built for long casts and flash on the lift and fall. Palms rigged it with Decoy assist hooks and a flasher, and offered it in 8 colors. Palms aimed it at horse mackerel (aji), sea bass and fish feeding on very small bait. In Florida, it fits light spinning gear when Spanish mackerel and other fish are keyed on tiny bait around piers, bridges and passes.
Tungsten or lead? For slow pitch work off Florida, Palms only offers lead: the Slow Blatt S and R go to 500 g at ¥1,220–¥4,890 in Japan. For casting, the Slow Blatt Cast jigs (covered above) do the opposite job to tungsten, using low-density Z-Light Metal for a bigger, slower-falling jig. Buy a Smelt TG only if you find one and need a very small, long-casting jig.

Slow Blatt Cast (shore and light casting)
Made from Z-Light Metal, a low-density alloy, so they’re larger for their weight and fall very slowly. Built for shore casting, surf and jetties, and useful for light casting from a boat.

Hooks included: Decoy Twin Pike front and Decoy single short pike rear. A dimpled surface and V-shaped top give an “extremely slow falling” action. An Australian retailer says “Slim” is for level falls and “Wide” (Oval) for irregular falls.

Slow Blatt Cast Long
20–60 g (92–132 mm), ¥1,100–¥1,400, for “big action and slow fall performance.” Hooks included on 30–60 g.
Florida use: Casting to Spanish mackerel, bluefish, false albacore and snook from jetties, beaches and boats. Inshore flats and passes are ideal.
Palms Metal Witch rods (brief)
Palms’ Elua Metal Witch rods are light slow jigging rods, mostly sold outside the US:

Palms sells assist hooks separately, and the offshore S, R and L aren’t listed with hooks included.

Color tips
Palms offers many colors across the Slow Blatt range. As a starting point, use glow and zebra glow below about 200 ft, pink and blue pink in clear water, and sardine or silver finishes when fish are feeding on baitfish.

Palms’ Slow Blatt jigs give you real control over the fall. Choose the S for a long horizontal fall, the R for a fast, erratic drop, or the L for a long profile, in weights up to 500 g. The Slow Blatt Cast jigs are excellent light casting jigs for Florida’s jetties and passes. The main drawback is availability: you’ll be ordering online, and adding your own hooks to the offshore models.
