Seafloor Control is best known for its handmade slow pitch jigs (see our Seafloor Control jigs review). It also makes one of Japan’s most respected slow pitch rods, the JAM. Retailers say it took about four years and more than 60 sample rods to develop. Company overview
Seafloor Control was founded on May 12, 2014; its predecessor started in September 2011. The CEO, Kazuhiro Hirota, discovered slow pitch jerk about 20 years ago and started making his own jigs because he wasn’t happy with those on the market. The company says each product gets more than a year of development and testing, that craftsmen oversee production by hand, and that it works with fluid-mechanics specialists and scientists from JAMSTEC (Japan’s marine research agency).
Hirota’s philosophy: “The product must be the one I want and enjoyable as an angler.”

The JR603-5 and -6, rated to 500–600 g, make the JAM one of the few premium slow pitch rods that cover South Florida’s deepest slow pitch water.
JAM 10th Anniversary (JR603-2+, 3+, 4+)
To mark ten years, Seafloor Control redesigned the JAM with a faster taper, so the jig can be worked in two-layer currents and from drifting boats. Each “+” model is about half a power stronger (2+ ≈ 2.5, 3+ ≈ 3.5, 4+ ≈ 4.5). They have a matte black finish with gold logo, hardware and thread.

Who it’s for: Anglers who fish current, where a faster taper keeps better contact with the jig.
JAM Limited Edition (red)
A red blank, the JAM’s brand color, with cork grip sections, offered in 2, 3 and 4 FORCE (250, 300 and 400 g). Coastal Fishing (Australia) listed it at AUD $950, sold out.
Rapier: full-solid carbon
The Rapier is Seafloor Control’s first full-solid carbon slow pitch rod, made from Toray T800 30-ton solid carbon, seamless from tip to rear grip, with a slightly fast taper.

Solid vs tubular: A solid blank bends deeper and is very hard to break. It also absorbs the shock of head shakes, which helps keep small assist hooks in. The trade-off is weight and a softer, less “crisp” recoil than a tubular JAM.
JEREX 6’3″: Tomo’s also lists a JEREX at $687.49 (high-modulus carbon, 1–4 Force). It isn’t on Seafloor Control’s official item list, and its listed specs match the Rapier exactly, so confirm details with Tomo’s.
JULT 510 and NOVA
- JULT 510 (JU510-M, JU510-H): 5’10” deep-sea rods with double-foot guides, built for golden eye snapper (kinmedai) and alfonsino. Relevant for Florida anglers targeting deep bottom fish with heavy jigs.
- NOVA: coastal rods for yellowtail and amberjack; NOVA FFFF is a spinning version.

For most Florida anglers, the JAM is the better value and covers more depth. Choose the Rapier if you target big amberjack and grouper and want a rod that’s almost impossible to break.

- Palmarius Rods (NJ, 609-435-2788) lists the JAM 1–5 at $449 sale ($650 regular), all sold out. Its listing mentions Torzite guides and a different reel seat from the official specs, so confirm before buying.
