2025–2026 updates and current generations
2026: 13 Fishing announced the SHYFT reel series on 8 July 2026, with casting and spinning models under $100, launched together with the new ENZO rods. Tackle Warehouse tags SHYFT casting as new for 2026.
Earlier generations: the Concept TX2, Concept Z Slide and Concept A3 (Gen II) date from around 2021, and the Modus SZ2 from around 2023, based on retailer listings and reviews rather than dated announcements. Older lines such as Concept A2, C2, Concept Z (non-slide) and Modus TX2 are still found at retailers, but their current status is unclear. No 13 Fishing product was among the ICAST 2025 Best of Show winners.
13 Fishing company and baitcaster-range overview
A design-led American brand, now part of Rapala VMC
13 Fishing is a US rod and reel brand founded around 2012. Rapala VMC bought 49% in 2019 and completed full ownership on 1 January 2024; US product pages now sit on rapala.com. The brand is known for distinctive styling and mid-priced bass and inshore baitcasters, with its patented CZB spool-bearing system, SLIDE magnetic cast control and Beetle Wing sideplates appearing across the range.
Some retail reviewers have reported quality-control concerns since the ownership change. These are anecdotal and we have not verified them, but they are a good reason to buy from retailers with clear return policies.
How to choose
The Concept TX2 is the clearest choice for inshore saltwater, and the Concept A3 for big saltwater fish and heavy lures. The Concept Z Slide is the premium bass reel, the Modus SZ2 and Inception SLD2 cover mid-price bass fishing, and the 2026 SHYFT and Origin F1 are the budget entries.

Concept TX2 — detailed review

Built for salt
13 Fishing markets the Concept TX2 as “the most durable saltwater low-profile baitcasting platform” — “TX” refers to Texas wade fishing. It uses a “zero corrosion” cast iron carbon chassis, a BOSS H.A.M. hardened brass precision-cut main gear, CZB Comp spool bearings, Black Seal corrosion-resistant bearings, Advanced Polymer drag with Alert Drag clicker and a 6-way centrifugal brake.
Specifications
TX2-8.3-RH (official): 8.3:1, 6.13 oz, 22 lb drag, 10 bearings, 12/125. TX2-7.5-LH (TW): 7.5:1, 29.7 in per turn, 6.1 oz, 20 lb. TX2-6.8 and 7.5 right-hand versions are also sold. Maximum drag is listed as 20, 22 or 25 lb depending on the source, and one retail reviewer measured about 11 lb — check the setting you actually need. Price from $269.99.
Verdict
One of very few low-profile reels explicitly marketed for saltwater; a strong choice for redfish, trout and snook if the drag figure meets your needs.

Verdict
A light, quick-adjusting bass reel. Some retailers label it fresh and salt, but 13 Fishing does not state saltwater approval.

Power and capacity
The Concept A3 (Gen II) has an HD aluminum frame with Ocean Armor 2 treatment, a Hamai-cut hardened brass gear, 40 lb Carbon Bull drag, dead-stop anti-reverse and a 6-way brake. 13 Fishing markets it for Pacific and Gulf Coast species; it also suits swimbaits and musky.
Specifications
CA3-6.3-RH/LH (6.3:1) and CA3-8.1-RH (8.1:1), with a 5.5:1 left-hand version at some retailers; all list 40 lb drag, 7 bearings and 12 lb/240 yd. Weight is published as “10.3/9.8 oz”. From $219.99.
Verdict
Exceptional drag for a low-profile-style reel at this price; a value alternative to the Abu Garcia Beast or PENN Fathom LP for big fish.
