Daiwa Casting Reels: Baitcaster Buying Guide and 2025–2026 Models

Review method: Researched editorial buying analysis based on Daiwa US and Japan product pages, dated trade coverage and major-retailer specification tables — not personal field testing. Several daiwa.us pages do not expose full specification tables, so some US figures come from retailers; conflicting figures are noted. Japan-market models are marked JP and priced in yen.

2025–2026 updates and current generations
2026: Daiwa marked the Steez line's 20th anniversary with the Steez SV Light TW (Japan from late December 2025; US as a 2026 model at $799.99). The Ryoga round reel was fully redesigned for the first time in eight years (Japan: SV 100 in December 2025, 150 in January 2026). ICAST 2026 brought the Zillion TW 150 and the Lexa LC 150 line-counter reel, while the Tatula Elite TW 100 was refreshed and a Tatula SV TW 100 “US Daiwa 60 Years” Limited marked six decades of Daiwa in the US. Japan also received the first Tatula bait-finesse reel, the 26 Tatula BF TW.
2025: Japan received the 25 Steez Limited CT SV TW finesse reel, and the Tatula X TW 100 value reel is sold in the US as a 2025 model. Other Japan 2026 releases not reviewed here include the 26 Koga IC 150, 26 Silver Wolf CT SV TW PE Special, 26 Tierra IC and 26 Gekkabijin BF TW.
Daiwa company and baitcaster-range overview
A Japanese leader in magnetic braking and spool design
Daiwa is the fishing brand of Globeride, Inc., headquartered in Higashikurume, Tokyo, with Daiwa Corporation serving the US market. Its baitcaster catalog runs from the value Tatula X and Lexa through Tatula, Zillion and Ryoga to the Steez flagship. Daiwa's reels are built around magnetic braking — the SV / SV BOOST and MAGFORCE-Z systems — combined with the wide TWS line guide, HYPERDRIVE gearing and, on premium models, magnesium or machined-aluminum housings.
Magnetic braking is easy to set and particularly forgiving with light and skipping lures, which is why Daiwa's SV reels are popular for versatile bass fishing. Larger LC (long cast) spools in the Zillion and Tatula Elite trade a little light-lure ease for line capacity and distance with heavier baits.
How to read this Daiwa range
For a premium light-to-mid bass reel, the 2026 Steez SV Light TW is the headline model, with the Steez A II TW covering heavier moving baits. The Zillion TW 150 is the 2026 choice for swimbaits, glide baits and heavy braid; the redesigned Ryoga is the round-profile option for cranking and saltwater use. Mid-price buyers should compare the refreshed Tatula Elite TW 100 with the limited Tatula SV TW 100, and value buyers the Tatula X TW 100.
Japan-market reels such as the 26 Tatula BF TW and 25 Steez Limited CT SV TW show Daiwa's bait-finesse direction. They may require import and use metric specifications; confirm warranty routing before buying.
Choosing size, ratio and capacity
Daiwa 100-size reels suit most bass work; 70-size and BF models are for light lures; 150-size reels add capacity for heavy line. Around 6.3:1 suits cranking and slow-rolling, 7.1–7.3:1 is all-round, and 8.1:1 or faster suits pitching, frogs and fast slack pickup. Compare inches per crank where published. Saltwater approval is explicit only for some models (the Ryoga and the Japan-market Tatula BF TW); rinse any reel after salt exposure.

A 20th-anniversary flagship
The 26 Steez SV Light TW launched in Japan in late December 2025 and is sold in the US as a 2026 model at $799.99. Daiwa positions it as a “light super versatile” reel: one reel for most light-to-medium bass lures. It combines SV BOOST braking with a 32 × 22.5 mm G1 Duralumin spool, tapered TWS, HYPERDRIVE DIGIGEAR, ZERO SHAFT and Zero Adjust; US models have a magnesium frame and carry Daiwa's “Executive Steez” five-year service warranty.
Specifications
In Japan the 100H/100HL runs 7.8:1 (78 cm per crank) and the 100XXH/XXHL 9.2:1 (92 cm), each 160 g with 5 kg drag and 12+1 bearings; capacity is PE 1/140 m and 1.5/100 m, or fluorocarbon 8–12 lb at shorter lengths. US retailers list STZSVLT100H/XXH at 30.9 and 36.4 in per crank, 5.6 oz and 11 lb drag, with mono capacity of 8/85 and 10/70.
Who should buy it
This reel is for experienced bass anglers who want one very light, highly refined reel for jigs, soft plastics, small crankbaits and skipping. Its shallow spool and modest capacity make it less suitable for heavy braid around thick cover or big swimbaits — the Zillion TW 150 or Steez A II cover those jobs. Saltwater use is not stated.
Verdict
The most important Daiwa baitcaster of 2026 and one of the lightest premium reels available. Choose 7.8:1 for versatility and 9.2:1 if fast slack pickup is a priority.

Distance and power
Listed in Daiwa's ICAST 2026 collection at $499.99 (Japan: September 2026, ¥58,400 per Japanese reports), the Zillion TW 150 uses an LC-concept 36 mm G1 Duralumin spool with MAGFORCE-Z BOOST, tapered TWS, HYPERDRIVE Design, ATD drag with clicker and a 95 mm handle.
Specifications
US models: ZLNTW150 (6.3:1, 27.9 in), ZLNTW150H (7.3:1, 32.5 in) and ZLNTW150XH (8.3:1 per Tackle Warehouse; 8.4:1 per other sources, 37.3 in), each 7.6 oz with 13.2 lb drag and 8+1 bearings. Mono capacity is listed as 16/135, 20/110 and 25/85. Japanese figures are 215 g, 6 kg drag (5.5 kg on XH) and 70/82/94 cm per crank.
Who should buy it
Anglers throwing swimbaits, glide baits, big crankbaits and heavy line who want long casts without a full-size round reel. It is heavier than the Steez but much lighter than most big-bait round reels. A Japanese source describes it as saltwater-capable; Daiwa US does not state this, so treat salt use cautiously.
Verdict
A strong 2026 option for big-bait fishing in a low-profile package; confirm the XH ratio on the exact listing.

Ryoga (2026) — detailed reviewNEW

First redesign in eight years
Daiwa redesigned the Ryoga for 2026, with the SV 100 released in Japan in December 2025 and the 150 in January 2026. It keeps the machined-aluminum “Hyper Armed Housing” round body and adds HYPERDRIVE DIGIGEAR, SV BOOST (100) or MAG-Z BOOST (150) braking, a Hyper Tough Clutch, ZERO adjuster and drag clicker. Daiwa Japan lists it as saltwater-compatible.
Specifications
Japan: SV 100P (5.3:1, 56 cm) and SV 100 (6.3:1, 67 cm) at 265 g; 150P (5.3:1, 59 cm) at 285 g and 150H (7.3:1, 82 cm) at 290 g; all with 6.0 kg drag and 8+1 bearings, priced ¥67,500–68,000. In the US the Ryoga 150 is listed at 7.3:1, 10.2 oz, 13.2 lb drag and 8+1 Magsealed bearings for $699.99, with an SV 100 at $679.99.
Who should buy it
Crankbait specialists, anglers who prefer a round reel's grip and durability, and those who fish both fresh and salt water. The low 5.3:1 versions suit deep cranking; the 7.3:1 150 is more versatile. It is heavy compared with low-profile reels.
Verdict
A premium, salt-ready round reel with a genuinely new 2026 design — the Daiwa counterpart to Shimano's Calcutta Conquest DC.

Tatula goes finesse
Released in Japan around March 2026 and co-developed with K.T.F., the 26 Tatula BF TW is the first bait-finesse model in the Tatula family. It uses a BF-concept magnetic brake, a 30 mm super-duralumin spool, HYPERDRIVE DESIGN, TWS, UTD drag and an aluminum housing, and Daiwa Japan lists it as saltwater-compatible.
Specifications
8.1R / 8.1L: 8.1:1, 185 g, 3.5 kg drag, 5+1 bearings, 76 cm per crank. Nylon capacity is 6 lb and 8 lb at 45 m. Price ¥36,300.
Who should buy it
Anglers who want to cast very light lures on a baitcaster for trout, small bass or light saltwater species at a mid-range price. US buyers can compare Daiwa's Tatula BF70.
Verdict
A well-priced Japanese BFS option with an explicit salt rating — worth importing for finesse specialists.

Refreshed for 2026
