Lew's Casting Reels: Baitcaster Buying Guide and 2025–2026 Models

Review method: Researched editorial buying analysis based on dated Lew's announcements, lews.com and retailer specification tables — not personal field testing. lews.com builds its specification tables with scripts that could not be read, so most figures come from Tackle Warehouse (TW) and press releases; differences are noted. Lew's does not publish formal saltwater ratings for these reels.

2025–2026 updates and current generations
2026: Lew's showed four new baitcasters at ICAST 2026: the HyperMag ITB 150 flagship (announced 30 June 2026), the Speed Spool ITB 200 (16 June 2026, at dealers in July), the 9.5:1 Speed Spool RX 200 HyperSpeed (24 June 2026) and the coastal-ready Custom TLX 150 (at dealers 1 June 2026). A new Classic casting reel ($74.99) is also listed by retailers.
2025: the Accel RX and Accel value reels launched in early December 2025, the Speed Spool RX appeared in ICAST 2025 coverage, and the Custom Pro Gen 3 (announced December 2024) and Custom Gen 3 formed the core of the 2025 lineup.
Lew's company and baitcaster-range overview
An American bass-reel specialist
Lew's, part of Rather Outdoors, is an American brand closely associated with the Speed Spool baitcaster and tournament bass fishing. Its current range runs from the Accel at about $70 to the HyperMag ITB at $399.99. The common thread is ParaMag magnetic braking: RX radial magnets for simple, forgiving control, and ITB inertia-transfer braking, which increases braking at high spool speed and reduces it as the cast slows — aimed at longer casts with fewer backlashes.
Higher models add one-piece aluminum or magnesium frames, C45 carbon sideplates, Hamai-cut Speed Gears and the P2 Super Pinion. Model codes follow a pattern: H ≈ 6.8:1, SH ≈ 7.5:1, XH ≈ 8.3:1, and an L suffix indicates left-hand retrieve.
How to choose
For a premium tournament reel, choose the 2026 HyperMag ITB 150; for ITB braking at mid price, the Speed Spool ITB 200 or Custom Pro Gen 3. The Speed Spool RX 200 HyperSpeed is a specialist for speed; the Custom TLX 150 is the pick for anglers who also fish coastal water. Value buyers should compare the Accel RX with the Speed Spool RX and KVD Elite.

The new flagship
Announced on 30 June 2026 and shown at ICAST 2026, the redesigned HyperMag ITB 150 uses a one-piece magnesium frame, C45 carbon sideplates, ParaMag ITB braking, Hamai-cut Speed Gears with the P2 Super Pinion, carbon drag, a carbon handle, Speed Knot and Speed Dial.
Specifications
HMITB1H-150 (6.8:1, 27 in), HMITB1SH-150/SHL-150 (7.5:1) and HMITB1XH-150/XHL-150 (8.3:1, 33 in); about 5.4 oz, 20 lb drag, 10+1 bearings, 12 lb/110 yd; $399.99. Model codes are from retailer listings.
Verdict
One of the lightest reels in its class with a 20 lb drag. It replaces the Team Lew's HyperMag G2; although marketed to inshore anglers too, there is no formal saltwater rating.

ITB comes to the Speed Spool
Announced on 16 June 2026 with dealer availability in July, the Speed Spool ITB 200 combines ParaMag ITB with an aluminum frame, C45 carbon sideplates, Speed Gears with P2 Super Pinion, Zero Reverse, Speed Keeper, Speed Dial and an external lube port.
Specifications
SSITB1H-200 (6.8:1, 28 in), SSITB1SH-200 (7.5:1, 31 in) and SSITB1XH-200 (8.3:1, 35 in), with left-hand versions; about 6.2 oz, 20 lb drag, 12/120. Bearings: 9+1 at TW, “11-bearing” in the press release. Price: $219 MSRP in the release, $199.99 at TW.
Verdict
The most affordable way into Lew's ITB braking — a strong all-round 2026 choice.

Built for speed
Announced on 24 June 2026, this reel uses ParaMag RX, a one-piece aluminum frame, hard-anodized Speed Gears, P2 Super Pinion, carbon drag, Zero Reverse and a 95 mm bowed handle.
Specifications
9.5:1, about 6.9 oz, 40 in per turn, 20 lb drag (TW), 7+1 bearings (the release says 8), 12/120; $199.99. A left-hand version was not confirmed.
Verdict
A specialist for topwater, burning spinnerbaits and covering water fast; not the best choice for slow presentations.
Custom TLX 150 — detailed reviewNEW

Coastal-ready
At dealers from 1 June 2026, the Custom TLX 150 has an aluminum frame, C45 carbon sideplates, ParaMag RX, CNC Speed Gears with P2 Super Pinion, a titanium-coated two-stage guide, knurled braid-ready spool, EVA/cork knobs and anti-rust bearings. Lew's describes it as built for harsh coastal environments, though no formal saltwater-approval label was found.
Specifications
TLX1SH-150: 7.5:1, about 5.6 oz, 20 lb drag, 4+1 anti-rust bearings, 12/125; $249.99. TW lists 28 in per turn, which looks low for 7.5:1 — treat with caution. Right hand only at TW.
Verdict
Lew's best current option for anglers who split time between bass lakes and inshore water; rinse after every salt trip.
